Aledo Athletic Booster Club Meeting

2nd March 2009


Present:  Jen Boland, Coach Buchanan, Brenda Cheatham, Robert Cox, Alisa Davis,  Bruce Frantz, Lorraine Grillo, Laura Heiss, Barbara Russell, Cynthia Seliga, Laurie Sheridan, and Elizabeth Vann-Stenzler

Secretary’s Report - Cindy Seliga presented the minutes for the meeting of February 9, 2009 as posted to www.bearcatboosters.com.  Laurie Sheridan motioned to approve as posted.  Jen Boland 2nd.  Motion Passed.

Treasurer’s Report - Rob Lowe presented the Treasurer's report as of January 31, 2009 prepared by Craig Whisnand.  Total deposits for the month of January totaled $10,447.00 and year to date deposits $89,805.97.  In January, 36 checks were written totaling $14,626.82.  Balance as of January 31 is $56,005.27.  Treasurer's report as of February 28th.  Total deposits for the month of February totaled $888.00.  In February, 8 checks were written totaling $12,521.67.  Balance as of February 28 is $44,371.60.  Rob Lowe motioned to approve as presented.  Jen Boland 2nd.  Motion passed.

President’s Report -
  • President - Rob discussed the 2009 goal to expand the presence of AABC to the Middle School is moving along with very positive results.
  • VP Fundraising - No report.
  • VP Communications - No report.  
  • VP Team Relations - Jen Boland reported that activities are being wrapped up with the completion of appreciations and indicated the need to begin preparing for Scholarship Committee.  Rob provided information regarding the process for awarding the scholarships.  More information is available at AABC’s website www.bearcatboosters.com.

Athletic Director’s Report - Coach Buchanan reported that everything is going very well.

Committee Reports:
  • Membership - Laurie reported that membership is now at 184.
  • Program - All ads are due by March 13th for the Spring Program.  Winter sports will be included in the Spring Program.  
  • Concessions - A volunteer is needed to organize the staffing of the concession stands for upcoming track meets.
  • Merchandise - Baseball shirts will be in soon.
  • Middle school - Alisa introduced ElizabethVan-Stenzler.  Alisa reported on the interest that has been created at the Middle School and the positive environment being developed for Middle School Athletics and AABC.

Old Business - None

New Business:
  • Waste Transfer Station presentation - Robert Cox presented information about the proposed Waste Transfer Station and the proximity to Aledo High School athletic fields and Stadiums.  Mr. Cox discussed the impact of the transfer station, most notable concerns with odor, pestilence, environmental, health, waste run-off, traffic, and quality of living.  Mr. Cox cautioned that the deadline for comments is March 12th and encourages citizens of Aledo to become involved.  Comments may be submitted online at www5.tceq.state.tx.us/ecmnts/index.cfm.
  • Funds Request Tennis - Coach Buchanan presented a motion to approve a funds request for $574.00.  The request is for JV and Varsity tennis tournament trophies and coaches lunches.  Laurie Sheridan 2nd.  Motion passed.

Team Reports -
  • Baseball - District games begin in March.  Completed a tournament this past weekend.
  • Boys Basketball - All District players were named.  Players have been named to 1st team and 2nd team along with 3 honorable mentions.  Three players have been nominated for the All-Star game.  
  • Girls Basketball - No report  
  • Golf - District meet will be coming up after Spring break.
  • Boys Soccer - Undefeated in district.
  • Girls Soccer - Undefeated in district.
  • Softball - No report.  
  • Swim - Achieved District and Regional champions.  Eleven school records were set by swimmers and relay teams in qualifying for state.  Coach Boehler was named as Regional coach of the year for both boys and girls swim teams.
  • Track - Boys JV and Varsity both took 1st place.
  • Tennis - Tennis recognition boards are in place and look fabulous.  Varsity played four tournaments in February, placing 1st as a team in two of the tournaments and 2nd in one tournament.  Several players took 1st place.
  • Power lifting - Power lifting qualified one lifter for state.

The next meeting date will be April 6th, 2009, at 7pm in the Field house.
