President’s Report: Joe Breshears reported the following: A designer has been selected for the Spring program. Parent and business advertising would be due on March 15. In an effort to ensure that all parents had the opportunity to recognize their player in the program, the Executive Board has voted to reduce the price for full, half, and quarter page ads from $175 for a full page in 2009 to $90 in 2010. Half and quarter page ads will be $60 and $30 respectively. We are grateful for the support of Plains Capital Bank, who have agreed to sponsor the cover for this year’s program. The deadline for renewal of season tickets for the 2010 football season is April 7. The annual season ticket exchange, which is available only for season ticket holders who have renewed their tickets, is Saturday, April 10. On that date season ticket holders can exchange their tickets on a first come, first served basis. Ticket prices have gone up for the 2010 season.
VP of Fundraising Report: The Skeet Shoot Fundraiser has been delayed until next year. VP of Communications Report: No report VP of Team Relations Report: No report Athletic Director’s Report: Tim Buchanan was present and addressed the Booster Club. Tim reported that on November 3rd of 2009 voting was held on a Tax Ratification amendment. The amendment would not have increased the burden on taxpayers. The purpose of the election was to ask Aledo residents to move approximately 13 cents from INS tax rate to M&O tax rate. The result of the voting was 794 votes to accept the amendment and 1,039 against. It is not uncommon for a voter to see an increase in the funding and to choose NO without understanding the actual impact a NO vote would have on the community and the budget. As a result of the voting some very difficult decisions are going to have to be made by our school board. The options currently on the table are to either release 50+ AISD Personnel or to impose a 5% decrease in salaries across the board for employees of Aledo ISD and still reduce at least 15 personnel units. Tim informed the Booster club that either way our children were going to lose some very dedicated teachers and coaches. There is going to be another election this fall, not sure of date, to attempt to move the +/- 13 cents from the INS taxes rate to M&O tax rate. The results of the voting from the election in November only had 794 votes for the ratification. There are approximately 450 district employees so if the eligible voters and their spouses all vote we could have probably passed the TRE in '09. There are district employees who did not vote and it may cause them and/or other employees to lose their jobs. At this time we plan to open the ninth grade center but we will not hire additional staff. Some teachers and coaches will have to float back and forth between the high school and freshmen campus. It would have only taken 246 votes to keep all of our teachers and coaches employed. 246 people is a very small percentage of the number of involved parents we are lucky enough to have here in Aledo. When the election is held again, vote. Become informed and cast your vote. Let your family be counted.
