Aledo Athletic Booster Club Meeting

9 November 2009

 

Present: Joe Breshears, Debbie Brikmannis, Coach Buchanan,  Lynne Carpenter, Brenda Cheatham, Jim Cheatham Lori Cook, Mark Cook, Bruce Frantz, Mendy Frantz, Karen Hawkins, Laura Heiss, Greg Jopling, Russ Jones, Van Laird, Coach Lemons, Gaye Lowe, Rob Lowe, Cathy Raines, Coach Russell, Laurie Sheridan, Cynthia Seliga, Tammy Viken, Mike Williams, Robbie Williams, Donna Young and one not legible.

 

Secretary’s Report:  Cindy Seliga submitted for approval the minutes from the November 2nd meeting as posted on the website.  Joe Breshears motioned to approve.  Lori Cook 2nd.  Motion passed.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Report available at next general meeting on November 16.

 

President’s Report: 

  • President - Rob Lowe reported that the booster club is working with the basketball coaches on a “Meet the Bearcats” event scheduled for December 2nd, 6-7:00 p.m. in main gym at AHS.  “Meet the Bearcats” includes both the boys and girls basketball teams.  The board has been active working on fall sports activities.  Rob also discussed the upcoming board elections and that additional announcements will be communicated in the upcoming weeks regarding open board positions.
  • VP Fundraising – No report.
  • VP Communications – No report.
  • VP Team Relations – Locker room decorations are Tuesday 7:00 p.m. Banner making will take place at 6pm.  Contact Donna for any additional questions.

 

Athletic Director’s Report: Coach Buchanan reminded everyone that tickets are available for pre-sale for this week’s football playoff game at Northwest ISD.  The Bearcats play Little Elm at 7:30 Friday November 13.

 

Committee Reports:

  • Membership –Currently there are 162 memberships.  Membership breakdown is 94 AHS, 39 AMS and 29 at both AHS/AMS.
  • Program – An eight page souvenir basketball program for the Bearcats and Ladycats will be available for $2.
  • Merchandise – District Championship shirts are now available cost is $12.  District Champ shirts and Playoff shirts will be available Tuesday evening during locker room decorations.  Shirts will also be available during all AHS lunches Thursday and Friday (November 12 and 13) 
  • Middle School – No report.

 

Old Business:  None.

 

New Business:

  • Funds request – Softball Coach, Lemons, presented a request for a pitching machine and travel warm-up suits.  Total request is for $4,600.00 (3,000.00 for travel forms and $1,600.00 for the pitching machine).  Rob Lowe motioned to approve.  Joe Breshears 2nd.  Motion passed.  
  • Funds request - Coach Buchanan presented a motion for $1,800.00 to support the Boys basketball teams’ participation in the Brownwood tournament.  Tammy Viken motioned to approve.  Brenda Cheatham 2nd.  Motion passed.

 

Team Reports – AMS:

  • Basketball (Girls) – Games begin November 12.
  • Basketball (Boys) – 7th boys scrimmage in Cleburne this evening, November 9.
  • Football- AMS District Champion teams are 7th grade A, B, C and 8th grade A. The 8th grade B team tied for 1st place and 8th grade C tied for 2nd.  Overall record for 7th grade; C 8-0, B 8-0, A 8-0.  Overall record for 8th grade; C 6-1, B 8-0-1, A 9-0.

 

Team Reports – AHS:

  • Basketball (Girls) – Varsity girls play first game November 19 at Stephenville.
  • Basketball (Boys) – Preparing for the season with scrimmages.
  • Football – The overall record for all Aledo teams (AMS and AHS) is an impressive 89-9-1.  Aledo teams scored 3168 points and allowed just 624 points. Freshman Black beat Birdville to finish at 4-6; Freshman Orange beat Birdville to finish 10-0 for the season they are District Champs; Sophomores are also District Champs finishing 9-1, beating Arlington Sequin 33-0; JV beat Birdville 22-21 for a record of 10-0 and the District Championship.  Varsity won against Birdville (at Birdville) 48-13.  The Bearcats are District Champions, moving the season record to 9-1.  
  • Golf – No report.  
  • Tennis – JV is hosting the “Aledo JV Tournament” on November 19.  Thirteen high schools will be competing.  JV won both matches against Boswell to end with a 8 and 0 team tennis record, securing District Champ title.  At the District 6-4A Coaches meeting Aledo tennis players received many awards including, First Team All District girls singles, boys singles, boys doubles, mixed doubles and Boy newcomer of the year.
  • Volleyball – Varsity lost to the Colony in playoffs.  Volleyball had a Great Season!
  • Cross Country – No report.
  • Swim – Swim meet in Mansfield on November 13.  Then the Colony November 14th.

 

The next meeting date will be Monday, November 16, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the Distance Learning Center.
