Aledo Athletic Booster Club Meeting

19 October 2009

 

Present: Joe Breshears, Chaz Brickmannis, Debbie Brickmannis, Coach Buchanan, Brenda Cheatham, Jim Cheatham, Lori Cook,  Kittie France, Bruce Frantz, Mendy Frantz, Laura Heiss, Russ Jones, Venton Kocurek, Van Laird, Debbie Paris, Cathy Raines, Barbara Russell, Cynthia Seliga, Laurie Sheridan, Tammy Viken, Robbie Williams, Mike Williams, Donna Young and Rick Young.Secretary’s Report – Cindy Seliga submitted for approval the minutes from the October 12 meeting as posted on the website.  Laura Heiss motioned to approve.  Laurie Sheridan 2nd.  Motion passed.

 

Treasurer’s Report – Though not present at the meeting, Craig Whisnand forwarded a report that the balance in the Booster Club bank account is currently $26,000.

 

President’s Report – Joe Breshears, for Rob Lowe.

  • President – Joe Breshears provided the President’s report.  An e-mail will be sent to all AABC members providing information regarding the upcoming tax election vote.  Everyone is encouraged to consider the opportunity to vote for the measure, which will authorize a shift of funds from the Interest and Sinking Fund to the Maintenance & Operations Fund.  Passage will result in approximately $2.7 million in additional funds for the District’s M&O budget, without a property tax increase. More detailed information will be provided in the email.
  • VP Fundraising – Joe Breshears reported for Craig Harbuck that Craig has already begun staffing for the fall playoff games.
  • VP Communications – No report.
  • VP Team Relations – Donna reported locker room decorations are Tuesday 7:00 p.m.

 

 

Athletic Director’s Report – No report.

 

 

Committee Reports:

  • Membership –Currently there are 158 memberships.  Membership breakdown is 92 AHS, 38 AMS and 28 at both AHS/AMS.
  • Program – No report.
  • Merchandise – Hoodies will be sold during the lunches at the high school along with other great selections. Hoodies will be $25.
  • Middle School – No report.

 

 

Old Business – none.

 

New Business

Soccer.  Coach Johnson presented a request for funds to acquire 30 uniforms (combination of jerseys and sweats) and 2 games goals for the soccer fields.  The cost of these items is a combined $6,000.  Coach Johnson discussed the funds that the soccer tournament expects to bring in.  The tournament will be scaled back this year to 16 teams, which will result in a reduced expenditure for referees. The tournament will occur the 3rd weekend in January.  Jim Cheatham motioned to approve the expenditure.  Mike Williams 2nd.  Vote passed.

 

Team Reports – AMS:

  • Cross Country – No report
  • Football –7th grade team records are C 4-0, B 5-0, and A is 5-0.  All 7th grade teams defeated Stephenville.  8th grade team records are C 3-1, B 6-0, and A is 6-0.  8th grade A and B teams defeated Stephenville.  8th grade C gave a good effort but lost, 14-8.
  • Tennis – Tennis is undefeated.  On October 15 Team Tennis defeated Crowley 15-11.
  • Volleyball – All 7th grade teams defeated Tison, as did the 8th grade teams.  7th grade A team placed 3rd in the Mineral Wells tournament.

 

 

Team Reports – AHS:

  • Football – Freshman Black lost to Saginaw 7-20; Freshman Orange won 41-0; Sophomores won 27-0; JV outscored Saginaw 31-8.  Varsity won 55-10, moving the season record to 6-1. Next Varsity game is at Springtown.  Freshman oranges record is 7-0, JV is 7-0 and Varsity is 6-1.  Next games are Freshman and Varsity at Springtown. Sophomores play Byron Nelson and JV plays Springtown, both at home.
  • Cheer – Would like to thank the Booster club for the touchdown T-shirts that are thrown to fans.  The new T-shirts have the Booster club name and web site on them.
  • Golf – Varsity girls placed 2nd of 12 in the Arlington Heights Invitational.
  • Tennis – Coach Russell reported that Varsity is ranked 13th in the state. This is the 4th year running that Varsity is the District Champion. District Championship was secured by defeating Birdville 18-1.  JV also outscored Birdville 11-8 to maintain an undefeated record of 6-0.  JV anticipates competing in the upcoming District Tournament.  
  • Volleyball – No report.
  • Cross Country – No report.
  • Swim – Swimcats’ next meet is October 24.

 

 

The next meeting date will be Monday, October 26, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the Distance Learning Center.
