Aledo Athletic Booster Club Meeting

4th May 2009


Present: Jen Boland, Coach Buchanan, Brenda Cheatham, Alisa Davis, David Davis Debbie Davis, Gretchen Gaskill, Craig Harbuck,  Laura Heiss, Jennifer Lopez, Rob Lowe,  Barbara Russell, Cynthia Seliga, Laurie Sheridan, Tammy Viken, Donna Young, and one not legible

Secretary’s Report - Cindy Seliga presented the minutes for the meeting of April 6th, 2009, as posted to www.bearcatboosters.com. Rob Lowe motioned to approve as posted.  Gretchen Gaskill 2nd. Motion Passed.

Treasurer’s Report - No treasurer report available at the meeting.  Information will be obtained and submitted as soon as possible.

President’s Report -
  • President - May 4th is the last regularly scheduled general booster club meeting.  Regular meetings will begin again in August.  That date will be communicated via the booster club email notification system. The middle school outreach has begun, and the booster club is looking forward to continued expansion of the booster club involvement.  
  • VP Fundraising - Eighty five percent of the Booster Clubs fundraiser money is derived from the program and concession sales income.  The upcoming year should be fun and exciting with additional incentive and innovations.
  • VP Communications - Gretchen’s term expires January 2010.  It is a great time for any interested individuals to become active in the position.
  • VP Team Relations - No report

Athletic Director’s Report -
  • Coach Buchanan provided an update on the H1N1 impact to the UIL sports calendar.
  • The athletic department and Dr. Kretzschmar will be providing athletic physicals on May 20th at AHS as a convenience for AISD for a fee of $25.  All grade levels require a physical this year.
  • Performance course forms are on the website.  All students are encouraged to attend.
  • As reminder, there is only one group that is sanctioned and authorized to provide the large athletic calendars.
  • On May 18th, AMS and AHS parents are invited to attend a free college recruiting seminar presented by National Collegiate Scouting Association. The seminar will be held at 6:00 pm in the cafeteria at AHS.
   
Committee Reports:
  • Membership - Laurie reported that membership is now at 185. Next year’s membership forms will be updated to include a designation to identify AMS and AHS memberships.
  • Program - Individuals who are interested in the Program Committee may contact Laura Heiss via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it The fall program would be a great time to become involved and become familiar with the process. Contact Laura soon, as preparation for the fall program is beginning soon.
  • Concessions - A 7x7 flag football tournament concession duty opportunity exists on May 23rd at AMS.    
  • Merchandise - Merchandise sales are continuing, and preparations for playoff     t-shirts are being worked.
  • Middle school - Plans for next year are underway.

Old Business:
  • Rob Lowe advised that the invoice for purchase and installation of Field House motivational equipment had been received in the amount of $4,160.94.

New Business:
  • Scholarships - Rob Lowe presented a group motion to approve the award of a minimum of 4 scholarships in the amount of $1000.  Motion was voted on and passed.

Team Reports:
  • Baseball - On hold for UIL. Preparing for playoffs.
  • Golf - JV boys and girls won district. Girls Varsity in 1st place for District. Boys Varsity competes in District next week.
  • Soccer - Season complete.
  • Softball - On hold for UIL.
  • Spring Football - Spring Football has started and is going very well.
  • Track - Track meets have been rescheduled to accommodate UIL decision regarding H1N1.     
  • Tennis - 5 players advanced to the second day of Regionals.  One player missed state by a tie-break.  Very successful tennis season this year and looking forward to next year.    

The next meeting date will be announced in August.
